Batman Begins

Posted in Misc by Kristian Kristensen on the July 22nd, 2005

I’ve just returned from the movies, where I saw Batman Begins with Tinus, Brian, Echkart and Peter whom I study with.

The movie describes how Bruce Wayne becomes Batman, and describes his training and equipment. The movie is very well done technically and quite entertaining. However, you don’t need to watch it in a movie theater, home is equally good.

Posted in Microsoft by Kristian Kristensen on the July 22nd, 2005

This just out: the next Windows code named Longhorn will be called (in product name) Windows Vista.
From the link there is a video of the launch of the new name from Microsoft Global Briefing – an internal conference disuccusing Microsoft strategy. It’s great :-)

    Microsoft on TV2 tonight

Posted in Microsoft by Kristian Kristensen on the July 21st, 2005

Tonight on the Danish television station TV2 there’ll be a program about a Dane (Peter Colsted), who got a job at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington after the successfull fusion between Microsoft and Navision. The program starts at 20.00 o’clock, and lasts till 20.35, and is called “Når lynet slår ned” (“When lightning strikes”).
Guess I’ll have to write about it tonight after I’ve seen it.

PDC: The road from my hotel to the conference

Posted in MSP,Microsoft,PDC by Kristian Kristensen on the July 21st, 2005

To maintain the geek status I had to figure out the road between my hotel and the conference center in LA. Via MapQuest I found them.
Approx. 9 miles long, but not to worry, Microsoft has a conference shuttle service, that drives between the hotels and the conference center.

TheSpoke will launch on August 1st

Posted in MSP,Microsoft by Kristian Kristensen on the July 21st, 2005

Schrankmonster reports that theSpoke wil launch in version 2 on August 1st.
TheSpoke is Microsoft’s community site to students, where they can hook up and blog. It’s a bit like Channel9 for students. TheSpoke also maintains the Imagine Cup registrations, and some of the competitions such as the Algorithmics comp.
Anyway, updates are welcomed, since the first version of TheSpoke has and is pretty crappy, and not to mention slow.

    Trip to PDC

Posted in MSP,Microsoft,PDC by Kristian Kristensen on the July 21st, 2005

I’ve just got some info about my trip to the PDC. I’ll be leaving on the 10th of September, and return late on the 17th. I’ll be staying at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel, which looks like a very nice hotel! I especially like the quote:

    Roof-top outdoor pool

Gotta love that :-) Not that I expect to make much use of it, since I’ll be swamped in Technical Content, and swag from the conference…

    Tablet PC Memory Leak Fixed

Posted in Microsoft by Kristian Kristensen on the July 19th, 2005

As a Current (Toshiba M200) and previous (Toshiba 3500) Tablet PC user, I was very happy to learn that we have fixed a problem with a memory leak in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005. It causes a gradual decrease in available system memory. This loss in available memory causes degradation in system performance. When this behavior occurs, the user must restart the computer. This problem is caused by a memory leak in the tcserver.exe service.
You can get the fix at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=C4EEBB54-14E3-408E-8C63-0A382E8D9239

    Structured Procrastination

Posted in Misc by Kristian Kristensen on the July 18th, 2005

    John Perry writes:

Procrastinators often follow exactly the wrong tack. They try to minimize their commitments, assuming that if they have only a few things to do, they will quit procrastinating and get them done. But this goes contrary to the basic nature of the procrastinator and destroys his most important source of motivation. The few tasks on his list will be by definition the most important, and the only way to avoid doing them will be to do nothing. This is a way to become a couch potato, not an effective human being.

And terrifically coins what if found to be quite odd, namely that when you have a lot to do, you get a lot of things done. But when you have few things to do, you almost get nothing done.
