Reinstalling my Laptop
As I reported a couple of days ago, I’ve gotten a DVD drive for my tablet. And with that in hand the plan was to reinstall my pc, which had been kind of weird lately. As I eagerly wrote:
I cant wait to get a clean install of Windows XP Tablet PC 2005 Edition, and get away from all of that preinstalled Toshiba crap.
Anyway (as always), things didn’t work out as planned. The Product Key I found under my Tablet didn’t work with the Windows XP Tablet PC 2005 Edition CD’s I had gotten a hold of, which was kind of weird. I tried to use the DVD that accompanied my tablet to restore it to factory state, then using Keyfinder to obtain the factory product key. But this one didn’t work with the CD’s either. In the end I gave up, restored it using the Toshiba DVD, and did a SP2 install on top. It seems to work fine, but it would have been nice to just have a clean Tablet PC 2005 install.
I don’t reall know what the problem is, since the product key from underneath the machine, is reported as valid when entered on Microsofts Genuine web site. Maybe the product key must be used with the exact version which is preinstalled on the machine, which is a Tablet PC 2002 with SP1a. I don’t know, and right now I don’t care.
So now I have an almost brand new machine, that works nice, with the right Microsoft Bluetooth SP2 stack, and not Toshiba’s. So far so good
