It’s running!
The server I wrote about a couple of days ago is now running and I’m currently installing Debian on it.
The sucker is amazing! And I’m really looking forward to playing with some real server hardware.
I’ve configured the five SCSI disks in RAID 0 and the last disk is kept as a reserve. (RAID 0 means making two or more disks appear as one) That’ll do for starters, since right now I just want to get Debian on it. Later on I’ll experiment with different RAID configurations.
‘Till next time… Happy Serving
Wazzup? I’ve got a server…
I’ve bought a server! An IBM PC 330 with the following specs:
- Intel PII 266 MHz
- 128 MB ECC SDRAM
- Dual SCSI RAID motherboard
- 6 IBM 4.5 GB Ultra Wide SCSI hard drives in hot-swap bays
- SCSI CD-ROM drive
- Floppy drive
- 10/100 Mbit Ethernet card
- Server cabinet
And the best thing is that it’s fairly cheap, just around $500. I’m really looking forward to getting it, and getting the ability to toy around with a real server with RAID and SCSI disks.
The server weighs around 20 kg without the hard drives, and it’s placed on a huge foot.
Almost forgot… Happy New Year
